Did you ever have a card that didn't turn out just the way you envisioned it?
This is one of those cards.
It's not all that awful, it just isn't what my mind's eye saw.
This is a submission for a One Layer Wednesday challenge over at Simplicity blog. This week's theme: "Patriotic Cards". I really have no patriotic stamps, so I improvised with these two background stamps, Medallion and French Script. I know, French Script....doesn't exactly sound American. Whaddya gonna do?
Because a one-layer card can have no additional layers, I needed to do some masking to get this job done. I stamped the Medallion on a scrap piece of paper, then cut out fairly close to the image. I was in a bit of a hurry and could have done a better job. Maybe next time. :)
After the mask was made, I did this:
* stamped script background in black on my white card
* stamped the medallion at the top, over the script, in navy ink
* masked the medallion and brayered on Riding Hood Red ink
* used medallion twice more near the bottom and sides with red ink
I have to admit, I need brayering skills pretty badly. Every single time I try, it looks goofy and patchy. Help! Michelle Zindorf, please come to South Jersey!! (have you ever seen Michelle's amazing brayer talent? Visit her blog)
Thanks for joining me today. And if you are American, Happy Fourth of July! If you are not American, have a wonderful day anyway!
Happy Stamping,

All supplies by Stampin' Up:
Stamps: Medallion, French Script
Ink: Riding Hood Red, Night of Navy, Basic Black
Paper: Whisper White

Well, I think it's an amazing card! The colors totally work, and the layering of the script background brings the whole thing together beautifully!
Colleen, I think this turned out so amazingly well!! I know it may not be what you pictured in your head, but it is absolutely lovely nonetheless. I love how you used the patriotic colors with those (non-patriotic) images. It all works!! So well!! I know what you mean about the brayer skills. Mine looks beyond bad usually. But your brayer work here looks fantastic to me. I think ya dun grate here!!!
Wow, this card is fabulous! Love your take on the patriotic one-layer--reminds me of some fabulous bunting on an old Colonial house! Great job, even if you don't think so. ;)
I love this Colleen - it looks fantastic to me, even if it turned out a bit different to what you had in mind! I really love the original take on the patriot theme - it all works beautifully. Hope you had a great weekend! x
It's fabulously festive Colleen! After Michelle Zindorf comes to South Jersey, can you send her to the Western Washington because I need some lessons for my brayering!
What a fun card! I love the combination of images, and I think your brayering is quite skilled!
