It's time for a new challenge at The Play Date Cafe, and the colors this week are beautifully inspired by nature.
I knew I wanted to have a water element on my card, as well:
For the first time, I played with aluminum foil from my kitchen. I thought the shine would be a good representation of water. Note to self: use heavier-weight foil next time! Mine is the bargain thin type, and although it took to embossing quite well, once I began manhandling it, it lost some of its crisp appearance.
The D'vine Swirls embossing folder by Cuttlebug worked great for 'waves' on the water, and torn pieces of 3 different green cardstocks stand in for grass. I'm not wild about my marker-to-stamp rendition of the tree (from Lovely As A Tree - SU), but it's okay I suppose. I used Handsome Hunter, Mellow Moss and Green Galore markers. The sky in the background is sponged using Soft Sky (what else??) and Baja Breeze ink pads.

ReplyDeleteI was going to add aluminium foil as well this week Colleen, but opted out because I was concerned about it falling apart while I was using it! Well done for getting yours embossed! great card :)
ReplyDeleteLove the embossed foil and how it extends "behind" the design area. Great job on interpreting this!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely ( . . . as a tree! . . . ) card, Colleen! You translated that image and beautiful colors into your beautiful card perfectly. Wow, I'm in awe of your work with the Al foil!!! It looks pretty darn crisp to me. Nicely done! :)
ReplyDeleteDid you say the tree is okay?? well, I think it is fantastic!! Love the embossed foil too... I had silver CS that glittered like foil but didn't know where to put it... love how you used it!

ReplyDeletereally well done. Super duper card!!!

ReplyDeleteWow, this is stunning! I think I used that word on your last post, but it's true!! That silver foil is so eye catching and that embossing is divine! Great job with the colors and awesome design!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! How AMAZINGLY COOL is this!!!! LOVE all the texture and creative goodness!!!
ReplyDeleteLove all the layers and textures in your card. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to tie in the silver! So beautiful! Mine is on its way to its recipient. It should arrive tomorrow, and I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll have it posted early next week. Great take!
ReplyDeleteFoil! Doing the head smack! Foil gives me all sorts of ideas!! ;) I love the swirls you embossed. It really does make lovely water :)
ReplyDeleteI love the torn paper layers you've used Colleen, the colours are so vibrant! And yes, the foil is fab :) Have you tried rubbing black acrylic paint over, leaving it for a few seconds then wiping it off? It gives a real aged feel to the silver. Just another technique I thought you might like :) The shiny silver is perfect here though for the water. Love it.
ReplyDeleteLovely card Colleen! What a great idea to use foil for the embossing. I love how you've used torn paper to create layers, looks fab!
