My Distraction Card

Today I took my 15 year old cat, Smoat, to the vet.  He's pretty sick, but they can't tell precisely what is wrong with him.  He's very despondent and won't eat or drink (except tonight he had a few licks of yogurt) anything.  He's also not using the litter box very much.  There are so many details which I will leave unsaid, because it makes me cry to relive all of it.

While he stayed at the vet hospital for several hours today, getting fluids, x-rays, blood panel, etc., I came home and felt hopeless and useless.  I cried and cried and could not focus very well on anything, and felt very agitated.

I poked around on challenge blogs and found a couple that I decided to "go for."  I made my card, even though I did not feel like making a card.  I forced myself into doing it, to get my mind off things, if only for a little while.

If you don't mind saying a prayer for a little furry one, please say one for Smoat.   I would so deeply appreciate it.

Gratefully yours,
Colleen

  1. Oh Colleen.....my heart breaks for you. Our old kitty (who moved in from the neighbour's house five years ago and as far as we know is aroudn 15) has stolen our hearts and I can't even imagine going through something like this with him. HUGE (((hugs)))!!! Know I know how you got your SCS name though :)

Your card is fabulous. You channeled your nerves wonderfully into this card! Hoping they find out what is wrong and get him on the road to good health soon!

  2. Colleen, I'm so glad you were able to find something to keep you distracted while Smoat was at the vet's today. What a heart-rending day it was for you. I do love your card (and I used that new PDCC combo today, too--off to blog about it next) and I'm so glad it kept you busy. Hang in there!! Know that I'm thinking of you all.

Although you forced yourself into making this card, I must admit that it definitely doesn't look like it - it's gorgeous! Thanks so much for playing with us, I hope to see you again! xxx

  4. Oh I am so sorry to hear about Smoat. I know you must be sick with worry. I will say a little prayer for Smoat and one for you. Sounds like Smoat is getting up there in years and I do know that feeling and helplessness. You know animals are so dependent on us, that they actual stay in a bit of a toddler stage forever. I think that is what makes them so endearing and why we get so attached. I love that you pushed yourself into a distraction by making cards. It's so therapeutic and good! Love these cards you made and the colors of the trees you used. Very nice. Hope Smoat feels better soon.

  10. Oh, Col, I'll definitely say a prayer for you and Smoaty...

Your card is lovely. The colors are fabulous and you've drawn wonderful inspiration from Barbara's card. Sometimes distraction is the best thing. Kind of a self-preservation mechanism.
    Sending hugs your way...
