Mark's Finest Papers #54 - A Mighty Fine Boot

This week's challenge at Mark's Finest Papers is Paper-Stamps-Ink.  That's it:  no embellishments, no ribbons, flowers, brads, chipboard, etc.  I know there are dozens of different ways to pull that off, but I was in rather a clean-and-simple mood the day I made this card.

I used a boot image from Grandma's Boudoir.  I tried to do different tricks with this boot, like stamping it multiple times with different ink colors in a large circle, like a pinwheel, but that didn't work out.  I tried making the boot look like it was kicking up its heels and having a good time.  Nope.

I made this Victorian footwear look more fun that it probably was to wear  by using a paper-piecing technique.  And let me tell you, that boot was CRYING OUT for little pearls as buttons!  But, no, I had to rein myself in.

Are you up for the challenge of Paper-Stamps-Ink?  The deadline to link up your creation HERE is Friday, May 13, 2011 at 3 PM EST.   Can't wait to see what you do!  Don't forget that there is a weekly winner of a stamp set, too.  Free stamps = good fun.  :)

ETA:  after the challenge, I changed the card a bit by adding pearls and rounding the corners of my card.  Aah - that's much better!

Thanks so much for joining me today.

Colleen

This is a great CAS card Colleen! I get so intimidated when I can't use all my favorite blingy things. This looks so good. Love the paper piecing on the boot. I would have a hard time not putting pearls on the boot too, but it does not need it!

Very cute CAS card, Colleen. Ooh, I can imagine how much you wanted to add pearls and blingies. But, ya gotta do what you gotta do. Good job with the challenge.

Loving the CAS look for this, and the idea to paper piece it is brilliant! Okay, you can add the pearls next time...

Every visit to your blog proves nothing but your progress to a higher level...Sweetheart, keep shining!!!!

Nah, Colleen. If you had added pearls, you would have had to add more pattern or something to balance it, and thus would have begun a process that would have taken you to a very complex card! In fact, this card is absolutely perfect in every way! The piecing was a brilliant idea...I'm definitely going to try that myself!

Colleen, I love your Vintage shoe card. How pretty that image is paper pieced. I can't image any Southern Lady wearing a shoe like that. As hot as it is here, those clothes must have been torture. We have air conditioning and I still couldn't imagine having to wear that...lol I am a bare foot girl at most unless I go out of the house! Cute card girlfriend. Have a Happy Mother's Day!

How simply elegant! I can see what you mean with the pearls, but I think the paper piecing posies did the trick! Very pretty!

Fabulous job with the challenge, Colleen, I don't think I would have the guts to do this, you mean no embellies? Is that possible? Not for me...but you've done marvelously with that paper pieced boot and gorgeous papers. Have a super Mother's Day my wonderful friend!
