Hydrangea Get Well

My father-in-law is having knee surgery next week, and I made a card to send him while he recuperates.
I think he will like this card, even though it sports some chocolate pearls and a bit of satin ribbon:

I used strips of retired Stampin' Up! patterned papers on a Certainly Celery card base.  In fact, except for the card base, everything on this card was a scrap, including the ribbon.

Can I just tell you how much I love the Fiskars sentiment set, All Year Greetings?  I bought it half-off (so it was $4.00) at a craft store near me, with the intent of using it on a lot of cards for submission to magazines.  I wound up really falling for it.  The sentiments are nice, the fonts are mixed and fresh, and they stamp like a dream!  I don't need to prime it like I need to with other inexpensive polymer stamps.

Another find I LOVE and have coveted for quite some time is the Botanical Script stamp by Inkadinkado.  I kept putting off getting it because it retails for $11.99, for just one stamp.  I found it on clearance at a JoAnn's store for $2.97!  How could I pass it up??

If you are not my Facebook friend, then you would not have seen the message I posted this past Friday, about my 13 YO daughter.  Some of you may recall this post, where I shared about her battle with anorexia last year.  Since the beginning of this school year, she has spoken to several different health classes in her grade about anorexia.  Part of the curriculum is about eating disorders.  Haley told her teacher that she wanted to give these speeches, telling all the details of her illness.  It was completely up to her, no one pushed her into it, or told her what to say.  She is a 'pro' at it now, and feels very empowered during her talks.

Last Friday, the students from the current health class gave her this poster, with individual notes of encouragement attached:

It touched my daughter so deeply that she cannot wait to go to school tomorrow just so she can thank everyone who included a note.  :o)

Thanks a bunch for joining me today!

Colleen

Wonderful card 0 hope the surgery and recovery goes just fine.

That is so neat about your daughter. Maybe you could scrapbook their comments later rather than on a large poster.

Hugs

fantastic guy card Colleen! I seem to sneak in ribbon and some pearls in my male cards too! Awesome deals on the stamps! I need to ask what priming of the stamps is? Maybe that is why my stamping does not come out good. I have some fiskars and inkdinkadoo. I sometimes take an eraser so the ink won't bleed, but that is it. I got choked up in reading the story about your daughter. That is awesome she is doing so well! I am so happy for her and your whole family!

I never think of stamping an image like that on a colored paper. I always want to stamp on white paper. I do hope I remember to give this a try. It looks wonderful.

You have to be so proud of your daughter. Just think how many she is helping.. That is so cool!!

Thanks so much for the sweet e-mail. That was so kind of you!!

You can never have too many pearls; even if you are a man :). This is a perfect finishing touch on a gorgeous masculine card!

Your daughter is a strong and smart young woman; I am impressed that she stands up. And tells her story to others so they can learn from her. A big hug for her. And to you; you raised her in a wonderful way!

This is such a beautiful card, I LOVE that stamp, and I'm not the flower type, but its so botanical, and the script in the background is just fab. Its inspiring to hear of your daughter and her desire to help people understand what is such a hush-hush illness. x

This {mainly} monochromatic card is just gorgeous, Colleen! I think it is very masculine, even with pearls and ribbon. You used them in a very non-girlie way and I think they add a lot of texture! And these colors look beautiful with the Certainly Celery card base!! Lovely :).

What a fantastic pair of stamp bargains you found! LOVE that Botanical Script stamp. Seriously--it's Inkadinkado? I never would have guessed. I'll have to keep my eyes open!! LOVE a good clearance bin find. :)

Finally, your daughter has so much to be proud of!! She is just glowing in that photo with those thank you cards. I'm so glad that that she has been able to build these health class talks into such a positive note. Congratulations, Haley!! And KUDOS to you for all of your hard work, Mom!!

It was great talking to you today, Col. Of course, after we hung up I thought of a million more things I'd wanted to tell you!!! Figures, right? Anyway, I enjoyed every minute of the time we *did* have!!

Love the card - who wouldn't love to get that one! It is pretty but in a masculine way! Hope he recovers quick.

Haley looks so happy in this picture. She has come a long way, and I so glad she has found a way to use her struggle to help others. I am so proud of her so I know you are about to bust with pride. She is beautiful! What a great thank-you from the class - she must be really special for them to reach out there like that. I just read Job 8:21 and this post totally reminds me of it. Hugz to you both!!!

What a lovely stamp set! So chic and beautiful! The earthy palette is perfect for it!
What a wonderful gift your daughter is giving to her classmates...and how hard that must be for her to share her personal stories...on the other hand it sounds like she's getting some heartwarming feedback. I can see how proud you are of her!

Colleen, this photo of your daughter smiling is priceless. What a wonderful spirit she must have to conquer that challenge and want to share it with others her age. I'm sure she will make an impact on someone who needs it.

My mom nearly died two years ago from eating disorder complications, having struggled with this issue for nearly 4 decades. I know what it's like to watch someone you love go through it, and worry for their life.

Anyway. This post, and your previous post which I read just now, touched my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to your daughter for her life and future. ;-)

(And the card for your FIL is awesome. Love it!) ;-)

((Hugs))
