A Christmas Bird with Lavinia Stencil

Hello friends!  It's Colleen Dietrich here with you today for Topflight Stamps.  This week we are highlighting Lavinia Stamps goodies!  The Lavinia section of the Topflight Stamps store is huge; over 700 items, including stamps, stencils, paint and more.

For today's card, I used a Lavinia stencil called Laurel.  It's a pretty vine, soft and delicate.  It reminds me of the organic designs on icy windows.  With that inspiration, I made a Christmas card.  I also used Lavinia Dinkles in Paynes Gray to help create a mottled texture.  I lined up the stencil on top of watercolor paper and spread a silver paste on top, then removed the stencil.  When the silver paste was dry, I sprinkled on the Paynes Gray Dinkles and spritzed with water a few times.  The effect was beautiful!  It spread in a random fashion amidst the Laurel leaves.  When it was dry, I was ready for the next layers of the card.

I used a piece of vellum die-cut in the shape of a flower, so the beautiful stencilling could shine through, and glued to the center of the card.  Then, using the Crafty Individuals Love Is All Around Bird Nest stamp, I stamped the image and fussy-cut the bird, then added brown ink to distress the edges.  Some pearls and a sentiment from Studio Light - Vintage Winter Elements stamp set finished off the frosty card.

What an awesome background, Colleen! The vellum flower is perfect for showcasing the bird yet leaving the background more visible!
