Fishy Father's Day

The other day I posted a golf-themed Father's Day card for my husband and his dad. This card is for my husband's non-golfing step-dad, John. He does like to fish, though, and as I am quite lacking in masculine stamps, I thought this would be so apropos.

The fish stamp is, like, 20 years old. It is from a company called Bizarro. I just found out today that they are still in business! Good for them. Way back when I got the fish stamp, they used to include a free stamp in every order over a certain dollar amount. Don't know if they still do, but my fish was free! He's been sitting in my stamping supplies for way too long, uninked. I am so glad to have used him.

Rather than color in these fish images, mostly because I think I could not do them justice, I decided to leave them looking like pen illustrations. When I arranged them on the vanilla cardstock layer, there seemed to be something missing. I used my Stampin' Up! journaling pen and a ruler to create a fine, thin border. I also punched 1/16" holes where their mouths are and threaded them onto twine. Knotted the twine, then fed it through tiny holes punched through the cardstock layers. On the back, I used Scotch tape to secure the ends of the twine. Then I arranged the fish, which have dimensionals on the back, in fanned-out positions.

I usually decorate the inside of my cards, and I did a little bit of something on this one. Just another fish in black, and a Father's Day sentiment in Chocolate Chip to give it simple flair.

Happy Stamping,
Colleen

Great card for your husband, I'm sure he will appreciate the work that went into it:)
Super border around the image, it looks like a picture! And that twine holding the fish is so cool. You are so creative and talented and I'm so glad you have this wonderful outlet to express that! Keep the fabulousity coming!

Colleen, what a wonderful masculine card! I just love that fish stamp and how you strung up a mess of them on twine. Good choice leaving them black on white like a pen sketch!! Very cool. And I LOVE your pen-drawn frame. Makes this look so clean. Great stories to go with this card, too. I love it!!!

Colleen, you are so fortunate to have this awesome, old stamp. I have heard of this company a few times since I've been stamping. I like the idea of stamping and letting it be on these fish. Such an awesome job. I think this is going to be a much appreciated card.
