Inspired by a Priest's Stole

When I attended my niece's Christening last weekend, the priest presiding over the event wore this gorgeous, gorgeous stole. It's the scarf part that hangs around the neck. My sister said the priests there have special stoles that coordinate with the church's colors and fleur-de-lis theme throughout the building. I found myself thinking of a card right away! I wish I could have taken a picture of that stole, but I didn't feel comfortable asking. :)

I am no great photographer, and found it difficult to take a picture that shows both the gleam of the gold embossing AND the tone-on-tone damask effect on the vanilla cardstock. I've included a second photo that shows the damask just a bit more, I think.

My 'studio' is my dining room floor, which is the brightest room in the house most of the day.

For the vanilla card base, I took the squarish motif from Baroque Motifs and stamped it in an even pattern with Versamark ink. On a piece of Brocade Blue cardstock, I again used Versamark to stamp the flower block from Carte Postale. I sprinkled gold embossing powder from Stampin' Up! (ooh, that's nice stuff) on them and hit it with the heat tool.

The fleur-de-lis, also from Carte Postale, is gold-embossed as well, but you can't really tell here! I chose not to put a sentiment on it, because I thought it was so beautiful as-is. The inside is blank, until I decide what the card will be used for. And, yes, I made two!

Happy Stamping,
Colleen

Wow, Colleen!!! That is amazingly gorgeous. I wish you could've taken a photo of your inspiration stole--although I know I wouldn't have either ;). I'll bet you captured it perfectly!!! Once again, I am in awe of your ability to be inspired by everyday objects around you. Way to go!!

Hi Colleen,
Beautiful card. You and I have very similar styles. A photo tip to get metallic embossing to show up - I have two photo lights that I aim from the top of the card, but if I have embossing, I incorporate a 3rd light from either the lower left or lower right. Use your camera view finder to get the placement just right to accent the glitter of the embossing and then - SNAP!

Good luck!
Mike
