Father's Day Seashells

I had already made a card for my husband, but -- long story -- I have now made a different one.
I LOVE how this turned out, and yes, I might get some flak for putting pearls on a guy's card, but it is so worth it!

I used the Tim Holtz Damask embossing folder on Sahara Sand cardstock, then rubbed Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and Copper craft ink on the raised areas.  After the card was completed, I lightly applied Whisper White craft ink to the edges with my finger.

The seashells are from a new Mark's Finest Paper set, Sand Surf Relax.  There's a 'daddy' shell, and two 'kid' shells, representing my husband and our kids, since this is a Father's Day card.  The pearls just look good with shells, plus they are symbolic of our children being the gems in our lives.  The ribbon I have had for, like, 20 years.  It was sold at a wreath-making supply place.  It looks good with shells, eh?

I stamped the shells in Stazon Timber Brown, then used this variety of Distress Inks to color:  Walnut Stain, Tea Dye, Pumice Stone, Scattered Straw, and Old Paper.  On the large shell, I used my bone folder to give some shape, so it would stand away from the card.

I'm entering this into two Splitcoast challenges:

I can't tell you how happy it made me to make a card today.  In fact, I made another, for an upcoming Play Date Cafe challenge.  Heaven!  Tomorrow is the last day of school, and then the kids will be home.  No more running them to and from school for a while.  Aaaah.

Paper:  Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla
Ink:  Stazon Timber Brown; Color Box Copper; Distress Inks - Old Paper, Pumice Stone, Scattered Straw, Tea Dye, Walnut Stain; SU - Whisper White craft

Simple FABULOUS card, Colleen!!! Just LOVE the interspersed pearls. You hang on to things long enough and look at what you can do with them :) I'm sure hubby will love this!!

I can't for a slower summer schedule and some sleeping in a bit :) Just don't want to hear the I'm bored comment on day 2 LOL!

Oh. my. word. Colleen!!!!! This is absolutely stunning!! Every detail here is absolutely perfect. And yes, those pearls absolutely belong--even on a guy card. I've seen your use that awesome loose-weave ribbon before, and you were so inspired to use it for this. It looks so nautical! Your sponging and shaping of the shells is expert. I am in awe of your work here. I have so many faves among your work, but this one takes the cake. Your hubby is so lucky to be receiving this stunning work of art!!!

Well, pearls are very much in line with sea life when it comes to shells and stuff. I know these are scallop shells, but maybe the pearls fell out of the oysters and are just laying on the beach. Wouldn't that be a nice find! At any rate, your card is just GORGEOUS and I LOVE it! I think it's a fabulous guy card!

Hi, Colleen. While I am sitting here drooling over this gorgeous and elegant card, I am remembering how you inspired my current one and I totally forgot to give you credit. :-( I love you shells and how you did your BG on this one, as well as the ribbon with the well placed pearls too!

Well you are inspiring another one and I definitely give you credit for both in that post!!!

So beautiful...I LOVE those shells and that beautiful ribbon. With this card, it seems like netting. Great reason for putting those pearls on the card. I'm thinking DH must have loved it.
