Joy Wreath (and a failed vintage card)

I have one card I am proud to show you today, and one - eh, not quite so much.  Let's start with the one I like.  :D

On a kraft base, I added some punched strips of Old Olive and Chocolate Chip, and a brown satin ribbon to dress up the lower half.  The circle Nesties make up my "wreath", with a Stampin' Up! set called The Snowflake Spot stamped in Old Olive and Always Artichoke.  Pearls are the ornaments on the wreath.

I'm entering the CAS card at The Shabby Tea Room:  challenge -  Winter Wonderland, and Pals Paper Arts:  challenge 78  - CAS cards with a bow.

Now let's check out my failed vintage card, shall we?
Even though I mostly make CAS cards, I adore looking at shabby-chic, vintage style ones.  I long to make them.  So I gave it a try yesterday and asked my husband what he thought.

Me:  "Do you like it?"
He:   "No."
Me:   "Is it the bow that you don't like?"
He:   (pause) "It's the whole thing."

Alright, so I didn't quite get the gist of the style this time.  But I will be trying again!

Don't forget about The Play Date Cafe's current Colour Splash challenge:  black/white and a splash of purple!  Come join us.  :D

Aaaaannnnd......I'll be the Guest Designer at Splitcoast's Clean And Simple Challenge this coming Monday, January 31st!  You won't want to miss the unique theme for the challenge.  :D

All I can say is, at first I thought I couldn't do it, and then after looking through all my stamps, I couldn't STOP coming up with ideas!!

See you soon,

Colleen

Far be it from me to judge your cards, but, on the vintage one I would like the cleaner, simpler look by not adding the snowflakes and the lace and button and to me, with the old-fashioned image, it would still be vintage.

Pretty Joy card! Congrats on being guest designer-will check it out.

I love your Joy card with the greens and brown - great look! And I can't make a real Vintage card to save my life so you are way ahead of me in that department!

Oh my goodness, I love both your cards, and I think your vintage card is awesome! I am really wanting to create vintage cards too, but I am too chicken to attempt even though I have totally obsess over them for years. I will stick to my CAS!

Colleen, both of these are beautiful! I really like how you made the wreath on the first card. Those snowflakes are perfectly placed!! And what is your DH talking about concerning the second one? I wouldn't call this a failed attempt at all. I think it is very cool. You did a really nice job of gussying up that awesome recycled image. As I said, both are LOVELY!! Can't wait to see what you've come up with for the CAS challenge on Monday. :) Congrats!

I am in awe of your first card; CAS is a bit difficult for me :) and I think you created a jewel. Your "wreath"is stunning! I am a big fan of eveything vintage. That image is lovely and maybe I would add a bit more of green and blue; and a tiny bit of yellow. I always try to use the colors of an image in my embellishments. And to be honest; I am always having a bit of a "problem"with red. Red is my "challenge". But above that; I think this is lovely.
And thank you for your lovely comment on my blog. What a lovely way to start the day!! ( it's Saturday morning here; weekend :)!)

Hi Colleen

I love both your cards - I too am not great with vintage - although I love that style - think it is because I mainly do CAS same as you. I'm always dreaming of creation something vintage..... Can't wait to see your creation on Monday.

Enjoy rest of your weekend.

Love your wreath card and the vintage one, too. I had a good laugh with the SHORT conversation between you and DH. Quick and to the point. Just the same, I love it. Beautiful card front and I think those red branches you punched were perfect. HIDE the cards from hubby!!! LOL
